Since the Canadian government opened immigration in 2023, job vacancies in the country have reached an all-time high. Employers in Canada have indicated a need to fill technical positions, with 850,300 open positions.
In addition, in order to combat the country's growing labor shortage, the government of Canada has repeatedly announced plans to open immigration for more skilled labor, even in various provinces.
Two-thirds of businesses say they use Canada's immigration system to find talent elsewhere, according to a BBC survey. The remaining third is made up of hiring immigrants who have already moved to Canada.

Work-based immigration in Canada
The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are an immigration pathway by which provinces can invite newcomers directly to settle as permanent residents; based on their education, connection to the province, and experience with in-demand occupations. In 2023, PNPs are set to overtake Express Entry-managed programs, as Canada’s largest PR pathway—however important changes are also coming to Express Entry.
